In 1917, in New Haven, Connecticut, Robert's grandparents opened their first business in their new country. It was a retail store selling wrapping paper, not the fancy kind but the kind you see in the "old" movies where the grocers wraps the meat in brown paper. Until the 1920's that was the extent of paper goods being manufactured. As products were developed, such as paper straws, paper napkins, paper cups, waxpaper, matches and paper bags, their retail store added them to their inventory. Harold, Robert's dad, went on the road all over the northeast selling and delivering these stocked items. It was on one of those trips that he met Mildred, Roberts Mom. In 1945 their family, including Pa and Bubbie Granoff and little Robert, moved to Miami, Florida and opened their first wholesale distribution "warehouse" in their garage (they all lived together). They prospered and soon moved their distribution into a real warehouse, bought trucks and supplied Miami's food service industry, (restaurants, hotels, caterers, civic organizations, and other institutional customers) with a much expanded product line from that original business. In 1983, at the very begining of the warehouse retail concept, Robert, now a grown man, and his Dad decided to open a cash & carry warehouse to serve the needs of the smaller buyers who wanted less than full cases of product and couldn't make distributers miniumum orders. Janyce joined the company in 1983 to source new product lines and married Robert in 1985. Today Janyce and Robert bring this unique product mix, at low prices, to the World Wide Web. They buy direct from manufacturers and ship products all over the world. Janyce and Robert are experienced in serving Mom and Pop companies like themselves, tiny startups, and city municipalities. Robert Granoff Robert, Janyce's husband, handles all the problems that come up that Janyce doesn't want to handle, including all financial matters. With over 50 years of experience in the "PAPER BUSINESS", he negotiates all prices and sources a portion of the product line. He fishes, though hardly ever catches anything, golfs, but can't keep count of his boggies (even though he is good at math), but he is a fantastic cook...he makes dinner almost every night. Janyce Granoff Janyce, Robert's wife, handles all the problems that come up that Robert doesn't want to handle, including all purchasing decisions. With many years of experience in the "PARTY BUSINESS", she studies fashion trends and sources new and interesting product applicable to the food service industry. Deb Gellman Head of Customer Service Deb is married to Janyce’s brother and is her best friend. She is head of our customer service department which includes some of Deb’s friends. They all live in Rhode Island, are talented, and have been trained to coordinate all our products. We meet every week by conference call to discuss the problems of the week, and applications of new product Janyce has found. We have a great time because we all love to help people plan outstanding events. |
